Description

Coturnix quail, also known as japanese quail, come in many color mutations. There are over 30 recognized color patterns, which then get blured even more with breeding between colors. We have lots of the standard, including pharaoh, rosetta, golden, white, and 2nd and 3rd generational offspring selected for unique colors and patterns.

They are prolific egg layers, and eat very little for their productivity. While a lot of people keep them in small cages, they are happiest and most productive in their own house without too many other larger birds. We keep ours in a large space with some logs, little houses, and lots of straw for them to play in, they also have a peacock to keep them company.

In a setup such as this, make a few cozy nesting houses and they will lay all their eggs in the nesting boxes. An insulated nesting box will help with year round laying, by numbers there will always be a quail in the nesting box, and the insulation will keep the eggs from freezing.
